Sustainable change requires more than motivation. I help people, teams and organizations build the capacity, resilience, and self-trust needed for meaningful, sustainable change.

Creator of the Resilience-Inspired Action Framework™

We often approach change by focusing on what we need to do differently: set goals, build habits, increase motivation, or try harder.
But, more often than not, we realize this lens doesn't set us up for success and we eventually resort back to regular routine, unhealthy behaviours and patterns that don't drive results.
A Different Approach
After years of working in public health, studying resilience, supporting people through change, and reflecting on my own recovery journey, I kept coming back to the same questions:
Why is it so hard to break unhealthy patterns? Why is sustainable behaviour change so difficult, even when we know what we want to change and we're motivated?
Over time, I began to notice a pattern.
Sustainable change isn't simply about knowledge, motivation, or willpower. It depends on something deeper: the capacity to navigate emotions, understand ourselves and what we've been through, recognize our choices, weigh our options and build trust in our decisions, clarify what matters, take values-aligned action, and cultivate support systems that reinforce growth.
Drawing together insights from public health, resilience science, psychotherapy, and lived experience, I gradually developed the Resilience-Inspired Action Framework™: a capacity-first developmental framework for building the conditions that support meaningful, sustainable change.
The Resilience-Inspired Action Framework™ offers an integrative framework and practical model for understanding what can make change difficult and for building the capacity, clarity, agency, direction, action, and support needed to move toward meaningful, sustainable change through six interconnected pillars:
CAPACITY - Ground & Regulate: Building the capacity to regulate, stay present, and engage with change.
MEANING - Understand your Story: Making sense of experiences and patterns to develop greater self-understanding.
AGENCY - Choice & Self-Trust: Reclaiming agency by believing you can choose and influence your path and learn to move forward with confidence and self-trust.
DIRECTION - Define Your Values & Path: Building your roadmap by clarifying what matters to you and using your values to guide your direction and goals.
ACTION - Aligned & Inspired Action: Translating intention into values-aligned action and taking small but meaningful steps forward.
SUPPORT - Supportive Environments & Relationships: Cultivating the environment and relationships that protect, reinforce and sustain progress. Supportive environments and relationships also reinforce change across the framework.
Together, these elements create a pathway toward greater resilience, self-trust, and sustainable behaviour change.
This is not about pushing harder. It's about building the capacity for change that holds.
Why Change Doesn't Stick
Jamie Dawdy, RN, MSc
Creator of The Resilience-Inspired Action Framework™
Sustainable change is not simply about knowing what to do. It is about developing the capacity to do something different ... and to keep doing it when life becomes difficult.
Why Is Sustainable Change So Difficult?
Because we often try to change our behaviour without changing our internal state or environment.
The Resilience-Inspired Action Framework™ is a developmental approach that focuses on building the conditions that make sustainable behaviour change possible.
The SIX Pillars:
#1. CAPACITY - Ground & Regulate: Before we can consistently change our behaviour, we need enough capacity to tolerate the emotions, uncertainty, discomfort, and stress that change can bring.
Sometimes the problem isn't that you don't know what to do. Your nervous system may simply be overwhelmed, depleted, or operating in survival mode.
We begin by building the capacity to pause, regulate, and stay present—so you can respond intentionally rather than react automatically.
Reflective Question: "What do I need right now to feel grounded enough to take the next step?"
#2. MEANING - Understand your Story: Our experiences shape the stories we tell ourselves about who we are, what happened to us, and what is possible for our future.
Sustainable change often requires understanding the story you've been living from and deciding whether it still serves you.
Reflective Question: "What story am I carrying, and how is it shaping the way I see myself and my choices?"
#3. AGENCY - Choice & Self-Trust: Understanding our patterns helps us recognize the small choices embedded within everyday thoughts, emotions and behaviours.
Each intentional choice creates an opportunity to respond differently. Over time, these experiences build evidence that we can influence our actions and strengthen self-trust.
Reflective Question: "Do I trust myself to make choices even when I can't control the outcome?"
#4. DIRECTION - Define Your Values & Path: Change becomes more sustainable when you know what you're moving toward, not just what you're trying to get away from.
As self-trust grows, we can begin to look beyond simply changing what isn't working and ask what we want to build instead. Direction helps us clarify our values, needs, goals, priorities and vision for the life we want to live.
Reflective Question: "What kind of life do I want to build, and what matters most to me?"
#5. ACTION - Aligned & Inspired Action: Insight is important. But insight alone doesn't create a different life. Meaningful behaviour change happens when what you understand begins to influence what you practice, choose, and do. This pillar involves taking small steps and intentional, values-aligned action towards the life you want to live.
Reflective Question: "What is one meaningful action I can take, even if I don't feel completely ready?"
#6. SUPPORT - Supportive Environments & Relationships: We don't build resilience in isolation. Sustainable change is influenced by the people, relationships, environments, and systems around us. This pillar involves building the relationships, environments, resources, and sources of support that reinforce and sustain the conditions for change.
Reflective Question: "What supports my growth and what makes sustainable change harder?"
Sustainable change isn’t about being "better"—it’s about being better supported.
